The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Course is an entry-level class that will prepare individuals for a variety of pre-hospital, industrial, and first responder settings.

OVERVIEW

COURSE SUMMARY

“EMR” can refer to a variety of positions including a firefighter, law enforcement officer, public works employee, emergency manager, fire marshal, HAZMAT coordinator, technical specialist, incident commander, fire chief, or a member of State Emergency Management who provides, plans, or directs emergency health or safety services.

Our particular EMR course is designed to provide participants with the basic knowledge and skills to manage many medical and trauma-related emergencies until the arrival of Emergency Medical Technicians or Paramedics.

Upon successful completion of this course, graduates are eligible to seek national certification as a First Responder (EMR) through the National Registry. Our course has been designed to meet or exceed the National Standard Curriculum for Emergency Medical Responder (First Responder) as developed by the United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Course Requirements

  • Minimum age 18+ (per state rules) and government-issued photo ID

  • High-school diploma/GED (or proof of current enrollment)

  • Ability to kneel and lift 50 lb

  • Criminal-background check (state EMS mandate)

  • Full tuition paid or employer-sponsored paperwork submitted before first class

What You'll Earn

  • EMR Refresher course completion certificate accepted by the State EMS Office (where applicable)

  • Review and reinforcement of EMR cognitive and psychomotor competencies

  • AHA BLS Provider certification renewal (valid 2 years), if included with course

  • CAPCE-accredited continuing education hours applicable toward EMR recertification

  • Documented competency review in patient assessment and scene management

  • Documented competency review in airway management and basic ventilation techniques

  • Documented competency review in CPR/AED and choking relief for all age groups

  • Documented competency review in bleeding control, splinting, and spinal motion restriction

  • Skills validation to support recertification or return to active EMR service
